Drawn to the drumming at dawn

Awake, my soul!
Awake, O harp and lyre [and drum]!
   I will awake the dawn.
Psalm 57.8 and Psalm 108.2

Raise a song,
sound the tambourine...
Psalm 81.2

Muli shani! Greetings from Mindolo, Kitwe, and the United Church of Zambia University!

Monday through Friday students and faculty gather for 6:30 morning devotions.  The 20-30 minutes preceding the service, singing commences.  The beat of the drums travels through the thin morning air, filling the compound with the pulsating rhythm of a new day.  Faithful voices rise giving thanks and praise in English, Bemba, Cinamangwa, Kelege, Tonga, Lenje, Nianja. Each day a different language is featured. I arrive early, drawn to the sacred celebration, enveloped by the enthusiasm.
Praise the Creator of this new day!
