A Prayer for Today, by Chisompola Kennedy

Muli shani!  Greetings from United Church of Zambia University in Mindolo, Kitwe, in the Copper Belt.  I've been welcomed by the faculty to share in the teaching of several modules this term in Homiletics (preaching), 'Worship in an African Context' and Liturgy.

This morning I am sharing a prayer written by Chisompola Kennedy, a second-year ministry student at the United Church of Zambia University here in Mindolo.  Kennedy, a member of St Luke's congregation in Kitwe, included this prayer when he led devotions, held in the University Chapel each morning at 6:30.

Prayer of Adoration and Confession
by Kennedy Chisompola
The question that puzzles many is how you came to be.  And what method is used to create this world.  Lord almighty, indeed your ways are mysterious.  And for this we adore and praise you.  At the same time we want to thank you for your mercies, favour and grace that you have given us.  Even when we go against your will, there is never a day that you distance yourself from us.  Forgive us, in Jesus's name,  Amen.

Words of Assurance
We are cleansed and pruned already, because of the word of God, spoken to us, beloved in the Lord.  These words assure us that our sins are forgiven.  Amen.
